If You're Not Filming Short Form Videos, You're Making A Mistake

People don’t pay attention anymore.

It’s sad, but it’s also true - our attention spans are nowhere near what we used to be. Commercials have gone from 30 to 15 seconds before the start of a web clip, news articles have become clickbait, and if a sitcom doesn’t make us laugh in the first few seconds we usually change the station.

But short form videos? We watch short form videos.

Most of us actually watch short videos every single day. If we’re scrolling through Instagram or TikTok and we see something that’s 10, 15, or even 30 seconds and it catches our eye then we’ll take the time to watch. We may do so in bed with the sound off, or as we’re walking down the street, but it catches us.

As a business owner, why wouldn’t you want to catch your audience’s attention?

Short form videos increase brand awareness

What happens in your brain when you recognize a familiar face? If you’re scrolling through a social feed and you see a photo of a friend, you instantly recognize them as someone that you know. Well imagine if that happened for you as a business owner as well so that someone recognized your brand.

Maybe it’s not you in every single video, or perhaps it is, but the look and aesthetic are similar enough that someone within seconds can go “hey, I know them” or “oh, it’s another video from …” Over the past decade, Youtube and TikTok have created their own celebrity culture because we’ve come to connect and identify with content creators that we like.

Short form videos for your business gives you the opportunity to become one of those content creators.

Short form videos are shareable

It doesn’t matter how old you are anymore - if you’re an avid social media user then you probably send a few reels to friends and family every single day. Maybe to your parents, maybe to your kids, and definitely to your friends - great videos are now shareable at the click of a button. If something makes you laugh, cry, or think, you’re going to do it with someone else with hopes of it doing the same for them.

Imagine if your videos from your business got people talking! If you have a funny hook that gets people engaged, or one that makes them stop and think, they’re going to connect. What’s more, they’re going to be likely to share it with someone else who may become your next best client. We pass on things that we like because it’s in our nature. Make your videos the thing that people like.

Short form videos are authentically YOU

Have you ever watched someone make a mistake in a short video? Maybe they missed a step in a Tik Tok dance, or maybe they flubbed a line on an Instagram reel and made themselves laugh. You saw it because they kept it in intentionally. They didn’t make the mistake on purpose, but they know that seeing it makes you realize that we’re all human!

Short videos can still have great production quality, and they should. If something is shot on a shaky camera or with bad sound quality, we’re not going to be impressed. Yet if it’s you being you, your audience is going to appreciate the authentic touch.

It doesn’t take much to produce a great quality video. You don’t need to buy Hollywood-level movie cameras or get studio-quality lighting. There are a few simple tools that you can use to capture great videos or even great B-roll anywhere that will make sure your videos help you show up as you, and help your audience connect to your business.

Need help? Hire a pro!

The only challenge with short form videos is they’re talked about so much now that people are nervous to get started! Many business owners believe that they need to be perfect to be effective, or else they’re going to embarrass themselves and not be taken seriously or gain any traction.

While we disagree, we’re ultimately here to help. We have some funky equipment, but we don’t have a Hollywood sound stage at our disposal and you certainly don’t need one! What we have is experience in creating content that helps keep our clients top of mind, and shared time and again with those who need to see their message. Contact us today to learn more about how we can help.

Oh, and if you read all the way through, congratulations! People may not pay attention to a lot of things anymore, but they’ll still make the time for great content!
